A couple weekends back Blake and I took advantage of an early Saturday morning to check out the Zilker Botanical Gardens near downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake. Although I’ve lived here for almost 10 years I’d never been to this oasis in the heart of the city.
We woke early with the intention of beating the heat, but for a city whose low temps at night range between 75-80 in the summer, it was sweltering by the time we got to Barton Springs nonetheless. We quickly realized we needed to eat before spending hours in the sun so we stopped at Uncle Billy’s and had some brunch under the patio misters before heading to the gardens.
Although there weren’t many flowers in bloom this time of year, the landscape was lush with greenery, water features, and (most importantly) shade. We wound through the trails to see the entire gardens and found a waterfall about halfway through; Cash was especially pleased and would’ve happily gone swimming if we let him!
I dressed for the gardens in this white Michael Kors button down shirt and my Gap scalloped chambray shorts from last summer, topped with my boater hat that’s been my go-to all summer long to keep my face shaded and protected. I can’t say enough good things about the hat and these espadrille wedges, both of which have become my summer staples and most worn items in my closet.
