Any time we want to escape for a day trip on the weekend, we usually head to nearby spots like the lavender farm in Chappell Hill and the Washington County cotton farm, or we go out to the family lake property. The lake house is just a couple hours outside of Austin and is a retreat from the city. We drove out there recently and arrived just in time for golden hour as the sun began to set.

There’s a part of the property that isn’t built on and it’s full of beautiful old trees and a swing to sit and enjoy the view. At the water’s edge is a natural beach full of driftwood and dead trees caused from the rising and dropping of the water level. It’s such a great spot to just appreciate the simplicity of nature. We always find ourselves relaxed when we’re outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine, especially at the end of the winter season.

This was just as the weather was in that winter-to-spring transition, warming up but still chilly at times. I’m usually dressed casually when we’re at the lake, and it can be a bit cooler near water so I always keep that in mind. I wore a long sleeve shirt from a local Austin shop that is the softest cotton shirt I own! I wore it with white jeans, my pink suede sneakers (also worn here and here), and a hat from a friend’s cycling and outdoors apparel line. The jacket is one I’ve had for years and is relatively lightweight, so I tend to wear it a lot in the spring and fall. It was perfect for this cool February weekend in Texas.

We spent a few hours winding down the evening before we ate dinner and drove back home. Do you have a favorite weekend escape or activity you love to do? Tell me in the comments below!
