One of our favorite things to do in Austin is try all of the different food trucks. There’s a huge food truck scene here and it’s some of the most unique eats in the city. There are plenty of events centered around food trailers and one of these is Trailer Food Tuesdays where different trucks meet up at the Long Center and you can walk around and try all the different food creations that people cook up. We were meeting a friend and arrived early so we took a stroll along Auditorium Shores and Lady Bird Lake to pass the time.
We’ve been lucky this summer and it hasn’t been as hot as recent years, but we’ve finally busted into the 100*+ days which means I’ve been wearing all of my lightest clothes. I picked up this soft pink tee on sale for less than $10 and wore it with some of my favorite lace shorts that I’ve had for a few years. It was perfectly easy and ‘no-fuss’ for the hot afternoon.
When we finally hit up the food trailers, we all agreed that Kona Ice was our first stop for a cup of shaved ice; it was perfect to cool us off and we quickly moved on to the other food options. I got an Early Burg Slider from Hand Helds — a mini burger dusted with fresh ground coffee, an egg, and bacon jelly — which was the award winning food item at last year’s Texas Trucklandia Fest. It was both the messiest and yummiest burger I’ve ever had! Blake stopped at Load a Bowl and as we walked up they handed us a cup of their wonton chips that had the best citrusy seasoning and were so fresh and crunchy, and he ordered a steak bowl with sticky rice, Korean Bulgogi, cucumber kimchi, and a fried egg. We found a table in the shade, ate, chatted, and listened to live music — a perfect summer evening in the city!
