There are certain pieces in my closet that I’ve owned for years and still love to wear. The key to these pieces being so timeless is that they’re versatile, classically designed, and bonus…they’re also comfortable to wear! These are items I think everyone should have in their closet.
A Button Down Shirt
A simple button down shirt is an extremely versatile piece to own. It can be styled so many different ways: with trousers, jeans, shorts, skirts, under sweaters; buttoned all the way or only a few in the middle; with sleeves rolled up or left down. I love this particular top because of the details that upgrade it from being a basic button down, like extra long cuffs, a covered button placket, and a bow-tied neckline.

Cute & Comfortable Sneakers
Another staple that you should own is a pair of cute sneakers for when your outfit needs comfortable shoes. I wore Keds classic champion sneakers when I was little and can remember my mom wearing them too. They’ve been in production for over 100 years and have been worn by the likes of style icons Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O! They’re the definition of a timeless fashion item. I talked in this post about how Merritt resurrected my Keds from the back of my closet and I haven’t stopped wearing them since. I can’t wait to get her a pair one day too!

A Crossbody Bag
I love a good designer tote as much as the next gal, but having a smaller crossbody bag is indispensible. This burgundy one has become my daily bag. I’ve realized I get along just fine without all the stuff I thought I needed to carry, like floss, bandaids, a pen, and the list goes on. This one holds the essentials and I love the gold chain and hardware details. Sometimes I wear the chain full length and sometimes I wrap it to make the chain shorter for a different look.

Whatever your fashion taste is, when you’re hunting for these timeless pieces make sure to go for items you really love. Think of them as the foundation of your wardrobe; through these pieces, you can start to build your signature style. Do you have any items that you’ve worn for years and still love?
