The new season is here! It snuck right up on me and here’s a confession: I didn’t even know it was the first day of fall until I saw everybody mentioning it on Instagram. Whaaaat? That’s tough to even admit considering last year I was all over it and even had a special fall breakfast planned to kick off the season. But there you have it! I’ll chalk it up to my promise to live summer to its fullest and not miss out on enjoying the final days for my anticipation of the next thing. In fact, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing and as far as my outfits are concerned, I’m still very much incorporating my summer clothes.

I wanted to style a few of my new-for-fall things, even though the weather’s still very warm, just to get the vibes going for the different colors and tones of the season. I bought some great staples from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in July which is the fashion world’s unofficial start to fall clothes shopping. For this outfit I started with some definitely summer staples: a linen cami top and my favorite cutoff shorts. This is a great base for any fall outfit because you can layer on to adjust for the temps — cardigans, blazers, light sweaters and jackets.

One of my fall items I bought in the sale was this green puffer jacket which will be great in much cooler weather. It’s lined with sherpa making it so cozy and it’s actually reversible too. I love the versatility of it being reversible because you can get more looks out of one item. It’s also packable and comes with a little bag in the pocket for carrying when it’s rolled up, so it’s very practical for taking on fall activities where you may end up in cooler weather. I can’t decide whether I like the green puffer or white sherpa side best, but I know I’ll be wearing it both ways a lot!

Another sale item I bought were these floral print Vans sneakers. This is my third pair of Sk8-Hi sneaks and they’re undoubtedly a shoe style I wear constantly with every type of outfit: dresses, jeans, skirts, and shorts. The floral print and darker colors in this pair are perfect for the tones of the season. Just take a look at my Instagram to see how much I’ve been wearing these babies since I got them. We even bought Merritt a pair of her own and she picks them to wear constantly too!

The last item of this outfit that was a new fall purchase were these burgundy colored sunglasses. They’re a beautiful rich color for the season! I think it’s imperative to change up your shoes and accessories for the new season even more so than your clothes. It makes a bigger impact and as you can see from this outfit, you can still wear summer clothes but look season-appropriate when the accessories are on point. Which of these fall items would you most likely invest in to carry you through the season? Leave a comment and tell me!
