In many of my outfits on the blog and in daily life, I often wear pieces I’ve had for a few years. I want to build a wardrobe that endures over time so I keep that in mind when I shop. Because of this, I challenge myself to find new ways to wear older things I’ve had. I bought this sleeveless trench coat for fall two years ago and last wore it on the blog in a trip to Seattle. It’s still a loved item in my closet and sleeveless jacket are still considered a fall fashion trend. I styled it two ways here to show the versatility of the piece: worn in one outfit for the office and another street-styled for the weekend.
For the office wear outfit, I wore the sleeveless trench coat belted for a more formal look. My clothes underneath were hidden once the trench was belted, so the rest of the outfit was up to the accessories. I wore a pair of heels that I wore often to the office when I still worked a corporate job. The shorter heel and ankle strap make them easy to walk in for hours. I turned the belt inside out to add a pop of color to the outfit as well as definition to my waist. Finishing touches were a leather-and-chain crossbody bag in the same shade as the trench, tortoise sunglasses, and a brushed gold metal clip to pull my hair back.
For the street wear look that’s perfect for a weekend in the city, I took the belt off and let the trench hang open to keep it casual. Underneath I had a solid scalloped cami half-tucked into rolled denim shorts. The trench is the statement piece of the outfit so what’s underneath should be simple. I changed my shoes to flats which are practical for walking around downtown. I swapped my bag and sunnies out for pink counterparts: the same sunglasses (which are my favorite!) in smoky wisteria frames and a suede bag with a fringe tassel.
This is a great outfit to wear when you need to go from work to play without changing. Getting ready for after-work fun is as simple as removing the belt and changing shoes/accessories that you can keep in your car. So what’s your favorite way I styled this sleeveless trench coat: for the office or for the street? Leave me a comment and let me know!
