Heading to California in September gave us the chance to experience fall weather for the first time this year. I was thrilled to dress for a different season! We spent an afternoon in Danville, CA (just outside of San Francisco) and enjoyed every minute of the warm autumn sun. The scenery was filled with changing leaves, redwood trees, and small town charm.

The weather was warmer than San Francisco had been the day before. It was perfect to wear this new fuzzy cardigan layered over a cami top. A cardigan is a staple item for any fall wardrobe. This one is a chenille-like fabric and so soft on my skin! It’s become my favorite cozy thing to throw on around the house when I feel chilly (and at the office prior to quitting corporate life). It’s 40% off right now so if you don’t have a cardigan yet, it’s a perfect chance to get one for all your fall outfits!

I’ve worn this cardigan over dresses and camis galore since I bought it. I wore a soft pink linen cami under it here, my favorite two-tone shorts, and Old Navy floral flats. I finished with details like understated jewelry and accessories in coordinating neutral tones. It was a perfect summer-to-fall transitional outfit and I loved all the different textures of the pieces styled together.

We whiled away the afternoon as we walked the streets of downtown Danville. We browsed the outdoor antique mall, bought chocolate from the candy shop Sweet Street, drank cold brew from Coffee Shop, and bought a tiny wooden music box for a keepsake for Merritt. It was exactly what a day on vacation should be — relaxed and un-rushed.
