There are three things you need to take a menswear-inspired look and give it the perfect feminine edge: a bold lip color, a designer handbag, and a pair of pointed-toe pumps. I like to incorporate these elements into an outfit that is otherwise casual, like a loose button-down with a pair of olive green chinos, to balance out the relaxed look of the clothes.
I wore this blue striped button-down shirt from Saks Off 5th with these J. Crew chinos (which are more than half off right now!) for a Father’s Day dinner and again here as a casual Friday outfit to work. I love the combination — it’s comfortable to wear but allows me to keep my personal style which is always more on the feminine side. While a bright lip color and pointed-toe pumps are relatively inexpensive (these grey striped pumps are on sale under $60), a designer bag is more of an investment but one that’s certainly worth it. If you’re on the fence about spending $300+ on a purse, think of it in terms of how much use you’ll get out of it. I’ve carried this Michael Kors satchel multiple times a week since I got it last September; I’ve without a doubt gotten my money’s worth out of it (and it still looks brand new)!
After work Blake and I headed down to the UT campus and grabbed a burger and some fish tacos at Dirty Martin’s on the drag, a place we used to eat when we were dating while I was still in school at UT, and Blake used to go with his dad after baseball games when he was young. It was fun to reminisce about the first years of our relationship and how lucky we were to meet at a party with mutual friends! I also loved getting to walk around the campus and experience again how beautiful my first home in Austin was, and felt incredibly thankful for this university that brought me to a city I love and a life I only ever imagined!
