On our fourth day in Taos we took a break from snowboarding to spend the day shopping in the plaza and relaxing at home with everyone, giving our bodies a chance to rest from the intense workout of 7-hour days on the mountain. It also gave us the opportunity to lounge around and fully appreciate the comfort and beauty of the home that we stayed in, which was the former studio and home of the famous Taos artist, Oscar Berninghaus, and is deemed a National Historic Landmark. We felt incredibly lucky to get to spend a week in this place!
Each room of the house was perfectly curated with Southwestern style furnishings, fabrics, and art decor that exuded an authenticity that made you feel right at home and like you’d never want to leave. Some of my favorite details throughout the home were the kiva fireplaces that were in almost every room of the house, the thick adobe walls that were adorned with cutouts and built-ins at every turn, and the thermal-heated tiles throughout, which made this the warmest, coziest sanctuary from the snow and had me actually walking around barefoot because it felt so nice!
Our expectations were exceeded when we were given the master suite to stay in for the trip, which we joked was our ‘wing’ of the house because the home was so huge. We had a fireplace at the foot of our bed and a door out to the patio with the hot tub just a few steps away, and we made sure to take advantage of both every day during our vacation. We started our day by taking a dip in the hot tub in the early morning chill surrounded by freshly fallen powder, and then spent the rest of the morning drinking tea and taking photos of every nook and cranny of the sun-drenched rooms of the house. The natural light in this place was a dream! #housegoals
After a leisurely morning at the house, we headed out that afternoon for some lunch and shopping in the plaza with the rest of the family. We were blessed with beautiful blue skies and sunny weather that was so mild we didn’t even need jackets, so I left on the same outfit that I’d worn around the house that morning: a blue linen shirt, white skinny jeans, gray scarf, and my favorite reversible pink/brown tote that I carry more than any other bag I have.
We had our fill of shopping and then headed back to the house for another dip in the hot tub, relaxed, refreshed, and ready to get back on the slopes the next day!

Amazing! I love the quality of the photos and the warmth they exude. You can just smell the piñon scent in the kiva fireplaces and the hint of spicy cinnamon in your morning tea. The glow of the morning light through the windows is so calming and the model just puts the photos over the top!

Reading this comment just takes me back to being right there, eating meals with the fire burning at my back and my toes toasty on the tiles…I wish we could go back! :)
