The first day of fall dawned very seasonally this year in Austin. The weather was cool and we planned to get out and enjoy it. I tend to get sentimental and like making special occasions of things, so I cooked a fall-themed breakfast to welcome autumn. I made this pumpkin french toast that tasted more like dessert than breakfast. It was so fun browsing Pinterest to find a special new recipe full of fall flavors to try. I decided years ago that once I became a mom I would make a tradition of having a seasonal breakfast on the morning of each new season. I think it’s important to celebrate the everyday things of life. Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make the fondest memories!
After second servings of breakfast and a morning nap for Merritt, we cruised the old ’59 downtown with the windows down and the crisp autumn breeze all around us. Our first stop was at the Rainey street food trucks for a late lunch. We ate burgers and Brussels sprouts, then drove a short distance for a walk along the boardwalk over Lady Bird Lake. Merritt loved looking at the boats and kayakers, and we had great views of the city skyline the whole time. It was an afternoon spent enjoying our city and the beautiful fall weather we were blessed with!
I dressed Merritt and myself in coordinating puffer vests which are definitely a fall fashion trend. They’re great to wear over a shirt when it’s mild out and underneath a jacket for extra warmth when it’s cooler. I’ve had mine for a couple years from J. Crew. I wore it with these Madewell jeans that are my favorite purchase lately. I’ve been wearing them so much I’m considering getting them in this color too. Matching pink suede flats and a pink cropped tee made a comfortable outfit for getting out and enjoying the first day of fall in the city!
Do you have any special seasonal traditions to celebrate fall? I’d love to hear about it!
