At the end of April we had our Mer-Bear’s first birthday party at the family lake house. It’s a peaceful spot about an hour outside of the city. Though the house itself has been a work-in-progress remodel for about a year, we held the festivities on the waterside grounds and it was perfect for hosting our small group of family and friends.
In keeping with the setting, we chose a woodland creatures theme for the party which I’ll share more of in a follow-up post. As for our outfits, I wanted something that would complement the theme and the natural scenery around us. I found our tot’s little two-piece outfit at Old Navy. The tiny wildflowers on her top matched the wildflower bouquets we used on the tabletops, as well as the patches of bluebonnets scattered around the property. The gauzy fabric and the open back had a whimsical feeling that I loved and was perfect for the warm weather. Her outfit is no longer available, but it comes in this little romper version with the same wildflower print. I also have this rainbow striped set and this ivory cami and chambray set that she wears often.
For my outfit, I wore this blue and white striped maxi dress with ruffle details. I wanted something breezy and simple and not too matchy-matchy with Merritt. This dress has been a favorite since I bought it. I love all the details like the ruffled tiers and straps and the covered buttons. It’s from the debut collection of a dress line created by a favorite blogger of mine, and I was so excited to own a piece from her very first collection and wear it for a special occasion. I’ve worn it tons since then and it’s really the perfect summer dress! I paired it with my J. Crew slides and dainty jewelry for simple finishing touches.
We took these pictures after all the festivities as the sun went down across the property. I’ll be sharing photos of our woodland creatures themed party decor next so stay tuned to see more of her first birthday party!
