The easiest summer outfit is always one that has as few frills as possible. There’s nothing fun about wearing layers in the heat, so a simple dress in a breezy fabric is my favorite thing to throw on in the dog days of summer. I’ve worn this striped linen shirt dress from Madewell on repeat since I got it.

I’m no stranger to linen and it’s definitely the most frequented fabric I wear in the summer — see this post and this post for more of my linen wardrobe. It’s a fabric known for letting the breeze through and wicking away moisture rather than absorbing it. When I’m wearing this dress I don’t even notice I have it on! It’s comfortable, relaxed, and let’s me move freely and stay cool.

We were out and about on a hot August afternoon so I threw this dress on. Since we were headed to the Domain for lunch and errands, I knew there’d be plenty of walking so I wore my lavender Vans sneakers. These sneakers have as many miles on them as my linen pieces have wears. They look cute with everything from a dress like this, to denim shorts or overalls (as worn here), to cropped jeans.

The final piece of my outfit was my floral embellished crossbody bag. I rarely want to carry a full size purse in the summer so I tend to go for smaller options like this or a clutch. This bag has likewise been a go-to all spring and summer. It holds just enough without being cumbersome or heavy. It’s safe to say that each piece of this outfit is a favorite staple in my closet. Paired with each other, it makes for an easy summer outfit that’s simple and cute.
