I like to think of dresses as having personalities. That’s why different styles speak to different people and body types. Sometimes I find a dress that reaches right through the computer screen and says “Take me on all your adventures!”, so who am I not to oblige? In all seriousness, though, this dress was one of those that spoke to me at first glance. I immediately loved the sweet details like shirred flutter sleeves and a teeny tiny vertical stripe print. I knew I’d wear it for endless situations. The tiered silhouette is flouncy and floaty and might say “I want to catch the wind on adventure!” or “I’m content padding around the house barefoot with a book in hand and a glass of iced tea.” There’s something about this dreamy dress that brings out the youthful girl inside me.

Quite appropriately, I wore it for the first time for Merritt’s second birthday party. Having added many new dresses to my wardrobe of late, I had a plethora to choose from when deciding my outfit for the occasion. But there’s a playful nature about this dress that I knew would be perfect for her Peter Rabbit themed party. Perhaps it’s the loose-fitting cut that allows you to romp and play like children while still looking feminine. During the opening of presents, I easily slipped out of my shoes and sat cross-legged on a blanket in the grass, which I couldn’t have done so gracefully in a fitted dress like this one I recently wore on the blog.

I dressed it up for the garden party setting with colorful espadrille wedges that have an ankle strap and platform heel. I just adore the play of the teal cotton stripes and sunny yellow canvas paired together — hues that really come to the limelight in summertime. Is there anything better than wearing fun, bright colors when the sun blazes down bright orange-yellow and glowing all day? I think not. I took a cue from the stripes on the dress when picking my accessories — these crystal-embellished bobby pins that also have a youthful vibe, and a horizontal pearl bar necklace, both incorporating the straight lines of the dress.

Though I loved how perfect this dress was for a youthful and fun birthday party outfit, I’ve worn it far more often on days spent at home with no makeup and no shoes. So perhaps my favorite thing of all is how extremely versatile it is for any situation. How would you wear this dress? Leave a comment and tell me!
