It’s no secret to anyone who knows me that I love a great pair of high heels. I’ve always thought of high heels as the quintessential *womanly* accessory and can remember a certain point in my life when I decided that I was old enough [read: mature enough] to rock them whenever I wanted. I once had a coworker ask how I could wear them every day when they must be uncomfortable and I told him, “I like them; they make me feel powerful.” ;)
When I read that ShopStyle would be partnering with Dress for Success to empower and promote economic independence for women, I happily signed on to participate and knew immediately that my “power outfit” would include my highest pair of stilettos. There’s nothing like the assertive click-click sound of high heels marching across a floor to make me feel like a professional and (as I put it in this post here) a woman who has her s*** together. I wore my favorite black d’orsay stilettos with this faux leather pencil skirt, this striped button down shirt, and this gray turtleneck sweater to create a business professional outfit that would be appropriate for any workplace. I topped it off with my MICHAEL Michael Kors Sutton Satchel which is a perfect alternative to a briefcase to carry around any paperwork or business documents while still keeping things stylish and feminine.
While a woman can definitely feel empowered by the clothes she wears and the image she puts forth into the world, we are also empowered by the special people in our lives that encourage and support us. I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by family and friends who do this and much more, but by far my biggest encourager has been my husband, who empowers me every day by helping me with this blog. He selflessly takes time to venture out on photo shoots, has spent late nights sitting in the chair next to me rubbing my neck as I struggled to finish a blog post or fix a coding issue on my site, and even built a new computer for me when we realized our old desktop wasn’t going to cut it with the photo-editing programs and home-based server needed to run the blog. He builds me up every day and makes it possible for me to do what I’m passionate about!
As part of ShopStyle’s Dress for Success Bloggers Give Back Campaign, I will be donating 10% of sales from my blog posts and any social media posts on Dec 8-9 and ShopStyle will match that donation $1 for $1. Check out my Shop page here and my Pinterest Gift Ideas board here for some holiday shopping inspiration and tell me, who empowers you each day? I’d love to hear and thank you for reading!

Love how you define empowerment as something ‘physical’ like the clothes you wear, as well something internal, how you’re feeling about yourself, because both are so true!
I do feel empowered and somehow stronger and more confident when I wear heels, but they KILL my feet – any tips?! All I’ve heard is ‘You get used to it’…which I don’t really want to do….
I also love how supportive your hubby sounds. Sounds just like my bf – spending hours encouraging, whether it’s by taking pictures or doing anything else related to the blog. Isn’t it great? Makes me feel so loved and taken care of!
Missed coming to your blog – sorry for being MIA it’s been a bit of a crazy month and a half….

What a great cause! And high heels definitely fit into the quintessential “power outfit.” If I were better in walking in them I would want a point pair just like yours lol

This outfit definitely says “I’ve got my s*** together”! I like how the skirt pulls together with the bottom half of the bag. I also like how you use your bag for carrying work instead of a briefcase. This is most certainly a powerful “suit” for women… right down to that “powerful” shade of lipstick, which is also a little bit intimidating. It’s great!!! Just because women have the same positions as men, doesn’t mean they have to dress like them.
