Last week we had family in town to visit my baby niece which is always wonderful to see and catch up with relatives who live on the other side of the state. We went to dinner one evening at Chuy’s, an Austin original tex-mex restaurant, and since Chuy’s is known for its eclectic and colorful decor, I dressed appropriately by wearing a hot pink button up tank with my favorite light-washed Old Navy shorts that I’ve been wearing all summer, and added these brown cage sandals that I snagged for only $30 and a pop of pattern with my striped clutch. It’s still very much summer here in Austin so I’m taking advantage of the shorts weather before it disappears!
This tank was actually passed down to me with several other clothes that my MIL was getting rid of, and I was more than happy to jump in and take my pick of the pile before they were donated. I love getting a bargain on clothes, especially on staples that I know will be in my closet for years and this pink tank is just that — I can see wearing it with dark skinny jeans, booties, and a black moto jacket for an edgier look in the fall, tucked into a maxi skirt like this blue one for a super bright and colorful outfit, or even worn unbuttoned like a vest over a patterned shift style dress like this one for a comfy-casual weekend look.
Another item I consider a staple is anything with stripes. Stripes are basically a neutral pattern and can be incorporated into almost any outfit to add some visual interest; it even pairs well with other patterns. I love bringing in a little fun/color/pattern in something small like a clutch because it’s not too much to overwhelm the rest of the outfit. I got this clutch a while back from JustFab and it was definitely worth the $40 price tag; I’ve worn it over and over and I love that it also come with a removable gold chain for carrying. What are some of your favorite staple items to have in your closet?
