We often try to take advantage of the weekends and head out into the hill country for something fun to do. We recently drove to Barrington cotton farm on a Saturday and spent the afternoon there. It’s a beautiful country drive that takes you right past the Blue Bell creamery and is also close to Chappell Hill Lavender Farm, which are more fun things to do in the area.
There were cows, turkeys, and even fresh piglets to see, all of which Merritt was very interested in! We even walked along the rows of cotton plants and picked our own flowers. We passed a basketful of freshly picked cotton and it was like holding a soft, fluffy cloud in my hands!
The scenery all around was beautiful. I wore a white cotton shirtdress because it was warm and seemed appropriate for the occasion. I got this one at J. Crew last year; it’s one of my favorite stores for quality staples that I wear time and again. My scarf is from a boutique in Round Top, Texas, and my boater hat has been worn more times than I can count. It’s one of my best purchases!
We walked all around the grounds and the house. The whole property is where the last President of the Republic of Texas retired when Texas became a state. Afterwards, we went to the Star of the Republic Museum just a few minutes away, which was so cool. We plan to take Merritt back there when shes older. We stopped in Brenham for an early dinner on our way back home to Austin.
