We’ve taken countless drives through the Texas hill country on our way to Lake Buchanan. Each time, we look for interesting spots to capture or adventures to be had. We love exploring the beauty of where we live and sharing it through stories and images! This particular weekend was an early autumn trip to see the progress on our family’s lake house that’s being remodeled.
As we neared closer to our destination, a field of wildflowers caught my eye. We circled back for photos in a sea of yellow daisies that was glowing in the morning light. A bit further down the road, there’s a drive-in style diner we’ve passed many times that we decided to stop at. It has a vintage feel and bright colors that stand out on the landscape. Both spots are a true representation of the countryside and the surrounding towns full of old history. I love that we’ve explored so many of the small towns between home and the lake. They hold so much character and it reminds me of my own hometown!
Later that day we drove to Llano to pick up lunch at Cooper’s BBQ, a Texas barbecue joint that smokes meat in huge pits with mesquite wood. Cooper’s frequently makes Texas Monthly’s list of best barbecue in the state! In addition to incredibly tender and tasty meat, they have a blackberry cobbler that’s worth going just for dessert. We get some every time we’re there!
While we snapped a few photos by the pits, one of the employees struck up conversation and showed us around and inside the pits while the meat was cooking. The size of some of the cuts were massive! It was cool to see behind the scenes and made us love the place even more. We took our food to-go and I later shared a picture in my Instagram stories of our lunch spread on the new counters in the house (follow me if you don’t already!). I’m already thinking about my next serving of brisket and cobbler!
Thanks to the warmth of early fall, I wore a top that was a summer favorite — made of linen with shoulder straps that tie into bows. It’s on sale for under $10 right now! These Madewell jeans are my favorite style. If I had a jeans personality type, these would be it. They have a high waist and vintage fit that’s flattering, comfortable, and classic. My Keds sneakers are years old and were brought back to life because of Mer-Bear. She pulled them out of the back of my closet one day when I was wearing this exact top and jeans combo. I wore them then and I can’t stop wearing them now. They look great paired with these jeans for a throwback-to-the-90’s look, and just as great with skinny jeans like I wore here. I love this leather version of my Keds and plan to upgrade mine eventually since I’ve been wearing them so much!
We loved capturing a bit of the countryside of Texas and these are some of my favorite photos we’ve taken! I hope you feel inspired to look around and appreciate the natural beauty of where you live!
