We try to squeeze in as many adventures as possible when we’re not at our day jobs, which usually means waiting until the weekend to get out of town (even if just heading to the lake). When we have plans on a weeknight, we try to make the most and capture something about our city and the area we’re in. We were near Burnet Road recently for a dinner with family, so we arrived early and cruised in the ’59 up and down the street like tourists, looking for some cool places to take photos and trying to see our city with fresh eyes.
Our first stop was a building that was covered in a huge painting of a school bus. You almost missed the door which blended right into the wall if not for the small steps leading up to it. Looking back, I don’t even know what the building or business was, but it certainly caught my attention as we cruised on past! Austin has quite a few wall murals and interesting spots for photographing, so it’s a challenge and a thrill to find something that isn’t overly popular (looking at you, “I love you so much” wall, which usually has people lined up for pics). I’ve featured shoots we’ve done in front of Austin murals a couple other times on the blog, like here and here.
After the school bus, we drove up the road to Lucy’s Fried Chicken. The neon ladies of this original Austin eatery are an iconic symbol of the city, and they had the perfect blue wall to match my outfit to boot! I wore a blue embroidered eyelet top and changed from my work trousers into my favorite Levi’s, paired with my floral embellished crossbody and the heels I wear more than any other (last seen in Dressing for Spring Occasions, Tied With a Bow, and New Year’s Resolutions and Goal-Setting). This top is available in a ton of colors and on sale! I love the pink and olive colors! See below for links to the exact and similar items I’m wearing.
On a side note, I recently found out there’s a new Lucy’s Fried Chicken opening up north a lot closer to where we live. I can’t wait to see the newest neon lady, so you can expect to see her featured on the blog sometime in the future! Have you ever tried to look at your city through the eyes of a tourist?
