As I mentioned a few weeks ago in this post, I had the pleasure of attending Austin Fashion Week this year as a media member for Gold Lion Style. It was my first year to be able to attend all three days of runway shows and, though it was a busy three days, I had such a great time becoming immersed in the rising world of fashion in Austin.
On the first evening of runways, Blake and I headed downtown after work to the JW Marriott where the event was held. We popped inside to change our clothes and then ventured back out to the streets to get some photos before the light faded. For my outfit on the first night, I opted for this sheer black eyelash lace top from Forever 21 paired with these colorful printed Gianni Bini shorts from Dillards. When I first picked up these shorts a couple months ago I envisioned them worn more casual for a beach vacation, but I love how they dressed up simply by adding some delicate lace, black pumps, and gold accessories.
Once we finished taking photos, we went back to the Marriott and had just enough time to sit down for dinner at the hotel restaurant, Corner. We filled our bellies — a bacon blue cheese burger dripping with candied jalepenos for me and cajun redfish for Blake — and then went upstairs for the shows. We were greeted with a red carpet and trays of Chloe wine being passed around, and we got to mingle and shop around at the galleries filled with emerging designers’ jewelry, leather goods, and other accessories. My favorite stop along the gallery wall was a hard choice between this designer that had the most incredible leather travel tote with a bottom storage compartment for shoes (or anything else), or the Luna bar corner that was stocked with baskets full of mini Luna bars and trays of sample bites. We eventually found our seats and enjoyed the rest of the evening watching the runway shows. One of my favorite designers of the night was Katie Kime’s large tropical prints — she’s a local Austin designer with far more than clothes to offer (dying over this birdcage chair in the tropical leaf print). I also could have worn every piece from Masha Osoianu’s capsule collection — her silk and hand-knitted frocks were simple, elegant, and irresistible.
^^A few photos from Katie Kime’s runway show. I’ll be covering the next two days of fashion week runways in follow-up posts so stay tuned!
